What is Artlab?
Artlab is a non-hierarchical workshop at The Alternative Art School. In these sessions, artists will offer each other critical feedback, from idea to fruition, culminating in an online group exhibition of artworks workshopped. Artists will get to know each other, forming connections to strengthen deep and meaningful feedback between each other’s art practices. This workshop is created to help support artists who are going through a transition; maybe starting a new project, series, or looking to refine their process. The appreciation to process is the holistic approach to art making that gives honor to the labor, exploration, and play for which artists rarely give themselves credit. Showing up for your art practice is not just the time in the studio, but the hours pondering concepts, materials, and processes while living life.
While all Artlabs have the same basic structure, each session is responsive to the attending artists' overlapping interests, needs, and the approach of the session’s guide. Artlab is about building community between artists by creating opportunities for vulnerable, supportive, and constructive exchanges of ideas, resources, and tools to enrich an artist's life.
Each class culminates in an online exhibition.
