Artist Statement: My work in acrylic on canvas is a vibrant exploration of the human condition, rendered through a surrealistic and expressive lens. Each painting tell a story, drawing from my personal thoughts, everyday experiences, and a myriad of inspirations such as books, overheard conversations, cliché’s, childhood memories, and poetry. In my artistic practice, I often view my figures as mannequins, strategically placed to narrate the tales I wish to convey. These figures, with their exaggerated features and expressive postures, serve as the central characters in the visual narratives on my canvases. Recently, I have been particularly intrigued by the incorporation of patterns or words, both in the backgrounds and within the figures themselves. This addition not only adds depth and complexity to the compositions but also enhances the surreal quality of my work. The juxtaposition of the patterns and the human form creates a dynamic interplay that captivates the viewer’s attention. While some may perceive an element of darkness in my paintings, there is often an underlying humor that emerges upon closer inspection. This duality reflects the complexities of human emotions and experiences, capturing the light and shadow of our everyday live.
