Project Statement: The And&And Residency was born from my experience in The Alternative Art School's Independent Study Program with Nato Thompson. Over five months, Nato provided invaluable feedback and insights. We examined other established art residencies, used mindmapping to workshop my project, and discussed strategies to attract my ideal residents—international conceptual media artists interested in immersion and connection. Through peer-to-peer and instructor-led feedback at TAAS, I gained new perspectives on creating sustainable ecosystems for artists and developing the residency. I also learned how to identify and bring on potential partners. Nato advised me to embrace the learning curve of launching a pilot program, emphasizing the importance of vulnerability and resilience. This holistic approach gave me the confidence to create a residency that will, over time, connect artists worldwide with Austin’s vibrant media arts community.
