Dear Readers,
This is my 3rd email — The Closure. In this email each artist is asked to send a package to the place that continues to haunt us. I brought the flash drive containing my recorded voice reading the Cover Letter to a Little Free Library in the Arlington Garden in Pasadena. My work will be available to people who visit the garden. Arlington Garden was once the location of a grand mansion built by a wealthy grocer. By 1964, the mansion was destroyed. The site remained an empty lot for 40 years and was a formal staging ground for the 710 freeway. The freeway was halted due to local residents' opposition. Community members came together to create a garden that is free and open to the public. My child shared the story of the garden with me after she attended a planting workshop in 2021. I have been volunteering at the garden ever since. Along with the community, I have learned to leave roles, titles, and labels behind when working with the land. Simply connect with each other on a human level. And try and keep trying to make a place home for human and non-human species. Thank you all for reading and thinking with me in the past three weeks. Beginning next Wednesday, April 3rd, Chau Nguyen will present their work to us. Stay tuned! All the best, Fiona/昀叡 |
