Jini's Project statement: Self-love is a concept that is tossed around frequently these days. But what does it actually feel like to direct love toward one’s self? My intention in this project was to find a way to generate love in myself, for myself, and to communicate love through my art, in order to heal myself and illuminate the way for others to do the same.

Jini's Artist Statement:
My work as a healthcare provider consumed much of my life but I always made art and showed my work whenever possible. Over time, becoming disenchanted with the medical establishment, I chose to become an energy healer, an abortion doula and a medical intuitive. These roles, along with my meditation practice have increasingly informed my approach to life and art and have helped me bring more of my whole self, more meaning to my art making. My art is an expression of my personal, political, and spiritual journey. Much of my work has been about creating objects that challenge cultural norms and common mythologies and take the viewer from ordinary reality to the extraordinary. For the work in this exhibition, I have gone beyond my comfort zone to strip back the layers of my own conditioning and bring healing to my own personal wounds. My life may have been privileged in many ways, but my struggles were hardly unique.
