Kellie's Project Statement: In the house of my father I am surrounded by old objects that have been boxed and moved to multiple locations multiple times. Some are dated, abandoned and nostalgic, others redundant and ridiculous. Items are on shelves, in cupboards, under the house and some still in the original boxes they came in. Now in a caring role for my elderly father I have to negotiate these neglected objects and their histories. The video animation Master Protection features small scale ghostly silhouettes, moving in echoing frames in attempt to find balance on top a dated box for leather cleaner against a brick wall. Together these images question the too often and expected role of female in the role as primary carer and consider the endurance required to maintain the self in uncertain and an ever changing environment that is not my own.
Kellie's Artist Statement: Creating visions of wonder and intrigue my work involves site-generated installations and performances that incorporate, video, collage, architectural space, performance and digital drawing. I hybridise these elements to generate artworks that are experiential and emergent. Creating in both solo and collaborative formats my practice investigates notions of transformation through improvisation and the absurd at the intersection of public and private space.
